Dandruff or a Scalp Condition?

Is it Dandruff or a Scalp Condition

Are you constantly wondering why you suffer from dandruff? Have you ever considered the possibility that it’s more than dandruff? You could potentially have a scalp condition, which is why you should always consult with your doctor if you’re ever concerned. Whilst it’s best to get checked, our products are all naturally formulated so you can get started on your treatment journey right away. Natural products for both dandruff and scalp conditions have been proven to work at effectively treating the condition. Self-diagnosing isn’t everyone's cup of tea, however, with these conditions it’s about treatment trial and error. You can try at home remedies or purchase products that effectively treat your condition if that makes you more comfortable.

So what is dandruff?

Dandruff is a common condition that causes the skin on the scalp to flake. Dandruff is by no means contagious, but it can be quite embarrassing regardless. You might find that your scalp is always red and itchy… which can be painful at times. Luckily we have formulated natural products that keep your scalp nice and healthy.

What are the signs and symptoms?

Symptoms may include:

  • Skin flakes on the scalp, hair, eyebrows, beard or moustache and shoulders
  • Itchy scalp
  • Scaly, crusty scalp in infants with cradle cap

These signs or symptoms may worsen due to stress or the cold weather. Some people suffer from mild dandruff and for others, it can be quite severe.

What are the causes?

Dandruff can typically have several causes, such as irritated oily skin, dry skin, a yeast-like fungus that feeds on the scalp oils, sensitivity to hair care products and other conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Speaking of psoriasis, it's said that doctors actually believe it's got something to do with your immune system. There is typically no known cause for scalp psoriasis.

Scalp Psoriasis

Some of the scalp psoriasis symptoms include scaly red bumpy patches, dandruff-like flaking, dry scalp, itching, hair loss or burning. Scalp psoriasis itself isn’t the actual cause for hair loss, whilst excessively stretching, harsh treatments and stress can have an impact.

The difference between Dandruff and Scalp Psoriasis

Psoriasis is usually long lasting while dandruff can come and go depending on the person. Another distinct difference between the two is that dandruff's usually flaky skin and psoriasis presents itself as scaly, powdery patches. Both conditions can be quite severe and painful so effective treatment options should be considered. There are plenty of natural household items that can treat these conditions, however, if you are experiencing the severe side, research thoroughly about your condition and trial lots of products until you find the right one!
