The Ideal Acne Skincare Guide and Routine
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that causes pimples and spots and is usually found on the face, neck, back and shoulders. Acne occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It is most commonly associated with teenagers as hormones change, but can also affect people of all ages.
Unfortunately, acne can affect people mentally, causing more emotional distress. That is why incorporating an effective morning and night routine every day will help ease the inflammation and redness. Getting on top of managing acne is also important to prevent it from getting worse and causing permanent scarring.
Grahams acne morning/night routine:
- Thoroughly apply our Natural Facial Cleansing Wash all over the face in a circular motion.
- Wash off with tepid water, either with a towel or rinse with water.
- Pat the skin dry. Do not rub.
Apply Grahams Acne Gel to the affected areas.
Our acne gel was formulated around natural powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients such as Manuka Honey, Aloe Vera, Gotu Kola and Witch Hazel. All these ingredients give the purpose of calming, soothing and reducing redness from the skin.
Our favourite ingredient is the active Manuka Honey used in the formula. It can balance your skin's pH level and help slough away dead cell debris to keep your skin clean. Its anti-inflammatory effect can decrease local inflammation caused by acne. As an antibacterial, Manuka honey leaves fewer bacteria to infect pores and cause acne.
Factors that may worsen acne:
Unfortunately, acne is a common part of a teenager's life and is usually hereditary. However, some factors that may worsen an acne breakout include;
- Diet. Studies have shown that introducing dairy and carbohydrate-rich foods into your diet may worsen acne.
- Some Medications. Some common medications which are known to cause acne are corticosteroids, testosterone or lithium.
Greasy or oily substances. Applying oily creams and lotions can trigger acne breakouts. Instead, look for hydrating and soothing. (you can check out our Daily Facial Moisturising Lotion here) Another risk is working in a kitchen where grease is present.
If you start to see signs and symptoms of acne, getting on top of proper management as soon as possible will help control and soothe problematic skin.
