WHAT CAUSES NUMMULAR ECZEMA?

OUR COMMON REMEDIES & SUGGESTIONS

Skin conditions are on the rise nowadays. It could be because of the increased incidence of people having bad diets, or environmental pollutants, or other causes. But nummular eczema is one of the widespread skin conditions that unfortunately, many people are dealing with. This disease is characterized by coin shaped spots on the skin. The nature of the coin shaped spots on the skin is that they may be really itchy, and they may be moist and ooze fluids, or they can be dry and rough.

Medical science has yet to find the definite cause of this skin disease. There is no firm conclusion as to what causes nummular eczema, but there is some speculation that nummular eczema is a lot more frequent for people that have had allergies, atopic dermatitis, or history with asthma.

FINDING THE CAUSE

If you think that you may have nummular eczema, the best thing you could do for yourself is to go visit to the doctor. He’ll be able to examine the lesions on your skin, and eliminate some other causes of this condition. For example, the doctor may recommend you to do a skin biopsy, which is a term that sounds complicated, but just means that the doctor will extract a part of your skin and analyze the origin of the infection, just to rule out a potential fungal infection for example. Nummular eczema also shows up frequently after reactions to certain products.

The terrible part about this condition is that it is classified as chronic, meaning that you may end up having the lesions for your entire life. This isn’t a reason to panic, though, because with adequate lifestyle changes you may change the course of this condition and improve it.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT TREATMENT

Treatment, as mentioned, consists in lifestyle changes. Diet for one may have a drastic influence on this condition. If you find that you’re eating unhealthy foods most of the time, then change your diet by incorporating more healthy, natural foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and don’t be surprised if the condition recedes completely once you have made this change.

Nummular eczema is known to be exacerbated by cold, dry weather. If you wash with really hot water, this may worsen the condition as well. So be mindful of the temperature differences that may influence this condition.

Stress is yet another important lifestyle factor that may influence nummular eczema. People that are often under stress report a consistent worsening of the condition when they’re under the pangs of stress. So, try to remove the stressors in your life.

Harsh chemical based soaps may also cause the lesions to increase and to worsen their condition. When buying soaps try to find some that will be gentle on the skin. If you don’t know which is which, then ask some of the store clerks where you do your shopping, and they’ll be glad to show you the less harsh soaps you can use on your skin.

If you don’t really think that lifestyle changes can make a difference, then the doctor can prescribe certain OTC drug based creams that may have some side effects. These creams do work short term, but the eczema will return once you stop applying the cream.

IN CONCLUSION

And there you have it, we have shared with you the definition of nummular eczema, and some of the common remedies that will help you combat it. This isn’t a serious disease, luckily, but it can be somewhat of a nuisance and even harm the quality of your life, if left untreated. But remember, as we’ve mentioned in the beginning of this article, nummular eczema is a chronic disease that can flare up from time to time. You can live an otherwise healthy life though, and only experience minor nuisance from nummular eczema.
